The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Rodeo Program
The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Rodeo Team was founded in 2002 and continues to be a tradition of excellence. Our mission is to not only help students excel in the arena, but also in the classroom. We pride ourselves in celebrating the western way of life and continue to instill those values into our students. Watch us as we compete against the best in the West Coast Region!
Head Rodeo Coach - Zack Brown
Zack Brown was raised in Red Bluff, CA where he competed in junior and high school rodeos. After high school, he attended Â鶹¹ÙÍø, and competed on the rodeo team making it to the College National Finals. Zack earned his Bachelors in Business Management from UNLV while on rodeo scholarship. He led his team to the CNFR multiple years while in Vegas. Zack has competed in steer wrestling, saddle bronc, bull riding and roping, but found his passion in bareback riding. He has been competing in the PRCA for 11 years and continues to do so. Qualifying for the California Circuit finals 11 times, multiple trips to the National Circuit finals and many wins in rodeos all over the USA. Zack is excited to return to the school that jump-started his career to develop a distinguished and successful rodeo program. His commitment, drive and passion for rodeo brings a new level of performance to his colleagues and team.
Zack says his favorite things about Â鶹¹ÙÍø are the students he gets to instruct on a daily basis, and the beautiful Rodeo grounds that he calls his classroom now.
Assistant Rodeo Coach - Kate Askew
Kate Askew is originally from Carmel Valley, CA, where she grew up on a working cattle ranch. Kate attended Â鶹¹ÙÍø from 2019-2023, where she received an Associate’s degree in Agriculture & Equine Studies. She also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Equine Science and Ranch Management at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. During her time here, Kate gained knowledge from the agriculture program where she specialized in riding and training colts for Â鶹¹ÙÍø as well as clients. Kate currently rides and trains cow horse and rodeo horse prospects for the public. Paired with her extensive background in the cattle industry, Kate brings valuable horsemanship and stockmanship concepts to our team.
Kate says her favorite thing about Â鶹¹ÙÍø is the agriculture program and its students.
Assistant Rodeo Coach - Madison Eide
Madison Eide is originally from Escondido, CA and also attended Â鶹¹ÙÍø from 2019-2024 where she received an Associate’s degree in Agriculture and another in Rodeo Skills. She also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Equine Science and Ranch Management at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. During her time here, Madison competed mainly in the breakaway & barrel racing events. In addition she also competed at CCPRA rodeos and finished 8th in the breakaway standing in 2023. Madison is now planning to rodeo professionally in the 2025 season.

The NIRA is divided into 11 regions. Feather River Rodeo competes in the West Coast Region along with eleven other schools: Cal Poly, Bakersfield Communicty College, Cuesta College, Fresno State, Lassen College, the University of Las Vegas Nevada, Allan Hancock College, West Hills College, and Western Nevada College. Geographically, the region incudes all of California and Nevada. The region hosts 10 rodeos and is comprised of nearly 225 members competing in the following rodeo events: Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Tie Down Roping, Team Roping and Steer Wrestling for men; and Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, and Team Roping for women.

The NIRA is the sanctioning body of college rodeo. They create and enforce rules governing the sport, handle national administration, and work with individuals and college programs to promote college rodeo. The mission of the NIRA is to foster and develop rodeo at the college level so that it will provide educational and competitive opportunities for students. The NIRA organization lives up to its motto of "preserving western heritage through collegiate rodeo" by hosting nearly 100 college rodeos each year for its more than 3,500 competing members. The assocation is made up of 137 schools and universities and is divided into 11 regions.

Each college is allotted a 10-member team, consisting of six men and four women, to compete for team points at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR). These team points are earned by coach-selected individuals and count towards the team's standing. At the end of the season, the top two point-earning teams in each region qualify to send a complete team to teh CNFR. Athletes from each of the 11 regions compete throughout the season for these individual team points. Individual points are rewarded for placing 6th place or higher in each respective event. At the end of the season, the top four point holders in each event qualify for the CNFR. At the CNFR, no season points are carried over to deterine team and national titles. Instead, all national titles are determined through points earned at the CNFR.

We are thrilled to announce that Â鶹¹ÙÍø will kick off the 2025 West Coast National Intercollegiate Rodeo season this October 3rd & 4th at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds! We are looking for your help to put on this outstanding event. In the past, it has been a highlight in the community and an economic benefit to Plumas County. The funds we raised last year provided us the opportunity to send six student-athletes to compete at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY this past summer. In exchange for your support, we recognize and promote your business or honor your family in our program advertisements and/or during the rodeo performances through arena banners, chute signs, and announcements. Â鶹¹ÙÍø has developed a nationally recognized rodeo program because of the generous support of our sponsors.
